Safe Summer is an evening summer recreation program, offering extended community center hours for Prince George's County teens and young adults. The program provides recreation opportunities, safe spaces, and positive youth development activities for participants.

In order to participate, Safe Summer eligible youth between ages 10 and 24 may either:
- Receive a free Safe Summer pass linked to their PARKS DIRECT account, or
- Attend as a drop-in visitor if they do not have an account.
Open Global Sales and Locate the Participant
- Sign in to PARKS DIRECT and open Global Sales.
- On the Global Sales Lookup screen, search for the participant using the available search filters.
- Select the participant by either:
- Highlighting the household and pressing the Select button, or
- Double-clicking the household.
Add the Safe Summer Pass (or Youth ID) to the Cart
- On the household's Global Sales screen, select the Standard Pass tab.
- Locate the appropriate Safe Summer pass:
- M-NCPPC: Youth ID - 1 Year (participants under 18)
- M-NCPPC: Safe Summer ID (participants 18 and older)
- Click the pass to highlight/select it.
- On the right side of the screen, confirm the participant receiving the pass is selected.
- Select Add To Cart.
Link the Pass to a Key Fob (Cross Reference)
After selecting Add to Cart, PARKS DIRECT opens a Cross Reference (XRef) window.
- Have the participant provide the key fob they will use to access Safe Summer programs.
- Scan the key fob or enter its number into the Cross Reference field.
- Verify the correct key fob number appears on the screen.
- Select Continue.
The key fob must be linked to the participant's Safe Summer pass so staff can scan the participant into the facility during future visits. Complete the Transaction
- Verify the Safe Summer pass appears in the cart.
- Select the $0.00 Payment button.
- Complete the transaction.
After completing the transaction, you may be prompted to take a photo to add to the user's account. Follow your facility's guidelines in taking or updating this photo, as per any other standard PARKS DIRECT pass.
Scan a Safe Summer Pass
- On the RecTrac main menu, select Processing, then select Pass Visit Processing.
- Scan the participant's fob or enter the card number into the top field and select Pass Number Lookup.
- Verify the participant's information and complete the visit.
Record a Daily Visit/Drop-In Admission
- On the Pass Visit Processing screen, select Daily Visit.
- Select the Safe Summer or drop-in admission option used by your facility.
- Available options and exact interface will vary by location.
- Enter the participant's information when prompted. Fields highlighted in red are mandatory.
- Select Continue.
The visit is recorded in PARKS DIRECT with the guest's status marked as "Swiped In".
Encourage participants who plan to attend future Safe Summer sessions or other M-NCPPC programs to create a PARKS DIRECT account.
- They can create their own account online: PARKS DIRECT First-Time Account Setup, or
- Staff can account for a participant in-person: Create a PARKS DIRECT Customer Account, Household, Family Member, and Organization
