Lottery sections allow customers to submit a lottery entry rather than enrolling directly into a program. To make a section available through the lottery system, update the section's registration settings and assign the appropriate lottery group.
Use this article when you need to convert an existing section from Standard Registration to Lottery Registration.
Sections should be created with standard configurations in RecTrac before being set up for lottery registrations. For help with creating a section, please refer to to the How to Create a Section article.
Step 1: Open the Section
Navigate to Activity Management > Activity Section Management and open the section you want to make available through the lottery system.
Step 2: Open Miscellaneous Settings
Scroll to the Miscellaneous Settings section and expand it. Lottery registration settings are located in this area of the section setup.
Step 3: Change the Registration Option
Locate the Registration Option field and change it from Standard to Lottery.
Step 4: Select a Lottery Group
In the Lottery Group field, click the icon next to the field to open the Lottery Group Management window.
Lottery groups contain the lottery settings that will be applied to a section, such as lottery dates, age ranges, and enrollment options.
Lottery groups are typically named according to the lottery date and participant age range. For example, a lottery group named September 6th 3-5 would be used for participants ages 3 through 5 associated with the September 6 lottery.

Step 5: Choose a Lottery Group
In the Lottery Group Management window:
- Locate the appropriate lottery group.
- Select the lottery group.
- Click Select at the bottom right corner.
The selected lottery group will populate the Lottery Group field.
Step 6: Save the Section
Save all changes made to the section by clicking the Save button.
The section is now available for lottery enrollment. Customers will see a Lottery status when viewing the section online rather than traditional registration statuses such as Available or Waitlist.
