Scenario Examples and Documentation Requirements - Text Version

Scenario: Add Adult (Marriage)

Webform Question: “Who is the additional adult?”

Webform Answer: Spouse

Client Must Supply:

  • Certified copy of a marriage certificate.

Staff Action:

  • Increase family size by 1
  • Obtain proof of income for any new adult
  • Proceed to Section 3 (Income section)

Scenario: Add Child (Shared Custody / Guardianship / Custody Change)

Webform Question: “Who is the additional child?”

Webform Answer: Foster child/temporary guardianship/custody change

Client Must Supply:

  • Parent and court‑issued custody agreement (with at least one of the adults on the transcript listed as legal guardian) OR other acceptable documents below.

Acceptable Documents:

  • MD Court Assignment Order – Order Declaring Parentage
  • MD Court Assignment Order – Custody (Custody Attachment)
  • Out‑of‑state court documents showing legal custody
  • Job Court Assignment Order (Child Support Attachment)

Staff Action:

  • Verify documentation shows legal custody or guardianship
  • Proceed to Section 3 (Income section)

Scenario: Remove Adult (Divorce)

Webform Question: “Why is the adult ineligible?”

Webform Answer: Dissolution of Marriage

Client Must Supply:

  • Maryland court‑issued order for divorce OR out‑of‑state court‑issued order.

Acceptable Documents:

  • Report of Absolute Divorce or Annulment of Marriage
  • Divorce decree
  • Court Assignment Order – Custody (Custody Attachment) indicating a change in guardianship
  • Legal separation documents
  • Any other official court document showing dissolution of marriage or separation

Staff Action:

  • Remove the adult from the household
  • If household income was previously calculated using that adult’s income, recalculate
  • Proceed to Section 3 (Income section)

Scenario: Remove Adult (Death)

Webform Question: “Why is the adult ineligible?”

Webform Answer: Death

Client Must Supply:

  • No documentation required.

Staff Action:

  • Remove the adult from the household
  • If income needs to be adjusted, proceed to Section 3 (Income section)

Scenario: Lower Income (Lost Job)

Webform Question: “Why has income decreased?”

Webform Answer: Loss of Employment

Client Must Supply:

Unemployment notice from Maryland Department of Labor OR other documentation showing loss of employment.

Acceptable Documents:

  • Determination of Monetary Eligibility
  • Letter from the Department of Labor confirming unemployment
  • Pay stubs showing loss of income
  • Other official documents showing change in employment status

Staff Action:

  • Recalculate income using 60% of AGI
  • Proceed to Section 3 (Income section)
