Adding a UPC code to an inventory item allows the item to be scanned using the existing barcode on the item itself. Multiple UPC codes can be added to the same item if desired.
Start off by going into Inventory Management:
In the datagrid, find the item you wish to add the code to and double click on it or select it and click the Change button at the bottom of the screen. This will open the POS Inventory Item Update screen for the item you had selected.
In this example, I'll be adding a new UPC code to the 8" Glider WWII toy. Notice that the item has a code of CPAM-TOY-0003. That would never be able to scan using the scanner, hence the need for a UPC code.
To add, change, or delete UPC codes, go to the UPC Codes tab.
On this screen all the UPC codes linked to this item are listed in the datagrid. In this example the item already has an existing UPC code.
There are 3 things you can do from this screen: add a new UPC, change an existing UPC, and delete UPCs.
Click the Add UPC button to bring up the UPC Update screen.
There are 2 fields on this screen you need to worry about:
- Description - Describes what the UPC code is for, if there are multiple codes being linked on the same item. This field is not required.
- UPC Code - The actual code that will be scanned. This field is required and cannot be changed once the UPC record is saved. It is recommended that you use your scanner to scan the code into this field to ensure that the item will be able to be scanned later.
Click the Save button once done to save the UPC code.
Once a UPC code has been saved, the only thing about the UPC code that can be changed is the description. If you need to change the code itself you will need to add a new one.
There are 2 ways in which you can update the description:
Highlight the UPC code you wish to change then click the Change UPC button to bring up the UPC Update screen. Update the description and then click Save to save your changes.
Highlight the UPC code you wish to delete then click the Delete UPC button. Click Yes when it asks if you are sure you want to delete this record..
The Delete UPC process cannot be undone. Once a code has been deleted it has to be readded from scratch.
