Front Desk Image Workstation Deployment

Updated on

These instructions will help you when ITS is deploying out a new front desk PC or hard drive. Keep in mind that you will need at least Help Desk Admin permissions or higher. Also, this is for the typical front desk, some sites may need additional installations.

Once we receive an email from ITS letting us know which PC is being reclaimed and the PC that will be replacing it, we will need to add a new workstation in RecTrac in Workstation Management. Click "Add" at the bottom of the screen to create a new workstation.

It is here that we will add the Workstation Name and description to create a functioning workstation in RecTrac.

The Workstation name for any PC being deployed by ITS will always consist of the asset tag number followed by -WD (for desktop) or -WM (for laptops). The description should mimic what and where this workstation resides. In the example above, we see that the description shows this workstation is at PGPP in the rear of their box office.

Now that we have created a workstation in RecTrac for the soon to be deployed PC, we now have to clone the profiles from the workstation being reclaimed. Don't worry, this will not remove the profiles listed, so the site will be able to continue servicing their patrons with no interruption.

In the Profile Assignment module, we will want to expand the Workstation drop down list and using CTRL+F you will bring up a search tool with which you will want to enter the asset tag number of the old workstation. Click on the workstation to highlight it, and then click on "Clone" at the bottom.

A new window will open giving you the information of the profile devices that will be cloned to the new workstation and from there you will want to expand the open form and type in the asset tag number of the new workstation we created at the beginning and check in the box next to the name.

From there we can click continue and the linked Profiles window in the middle of the Profile assignments module will refresh itself. From there we can look up the new workstation we created and confirm the profiles being added.

From there we can reply to the ticket from ITS letting the technician know that we have cloned over the profiles, and they are good to proceed with deploying the new workstation.
